[comp.sys.amiga] Unhappy Amiga Owner

coco@cbnewsl.att.com (felix.a.lugo) (10/17/90)

I would like to know what's going on with WB 2.0 for the Amiga 2000.
Is it available yet? Will it become available this year? What's
happening Commodore? What's taking you so long?????
I've seen it running on Amiga 3000s, so why can't I run it on my
2000? Commodore, are you willingly delaying the release of WB 2.0
for lower model Amigas until A3000 sales increase?
The WB 1.3 release is "ancient" by today's standard!
Also, what's the scoop on UNIX SVR4?

I've followed Commodore's line of computers for a very long time.
	My first computer was a VIC-20, followed by a C64, C128, A1000, and
A2000. I've never owned a computer that didn't have the Commodore
or Amiga logos in front. I really don't know how much longer this
is going to last, though, with the new systems introduced by companies
such as Apple and NeXT which out-perform even the new Amiga 3000,
	at comparable prices.

Also, I don't understand Commodore's PR. Two weeks ago I learned of
the new line of computers offered by Apple. This week I've seen
at least five (5) different TV commercials showing them off. Ask
me if I have seen a single commercial for the Amiga 3000??!!
Is Commodore so "secure" that they can afford not to advertise their
	systems?

I know I'll be getting tons and tons of replies for this post, but
people, wake up and smell the coffee!!!! Commodore is losing
ground at an astonishing rate! Take this post seriously, and not
as another FLAME directed at Commodore.

					Very unhappy,

Yeah, what's the deal with SVR4?
	What about the graphics card?

Yes the NeXTStation and NeXTDimension are sweet!

I have to agree with him here. I understand the Commodore has a
better(?) policy at keeping screts now. However personally I think that if
C= are doing anything, they should keep users posted. ie "Yes! C= is not
sleeping" kind of message.

This way people out there won't be hanging in some kind of infinate
loop testing if the Amiga is really worth their patience.

I'm sorry if you think that the Amiga is going to go anywhere as it
stands now. At least if I know that if Commodore's silence != inactivity then
I'll hang in there abit more. (My arms are quite tierd of hanging! :-)

I believe the reason it is taking so long is that it is not cooked yet.
There are still things going on in the bug repair department, at least
as far as I know. You would not want a buggy rom released for your 2000
would you?

Remember, the 2000 can't boot kickstart directly.

I really don't think this is the case at all. It is simply difficult to
absolutely *know* when a program is going to be complete. I would rather
wait and have a less-buggy OS than to have it now and suffer nasty bugs.

I will say that the newer versions of 2.0 look real solid.

I am not sure about this compariable prices. Certainly wings doesnt
run on a NeXT! :-)

Commodore is putting a lot of their advertising funds into magazines. I
personally wish that they could afford a long term television ad campaign
on the high-end computing powers of the Amiga. (NO MORE STEVIE!)

The situation is that Kickstart 2.0 isn't quite nailed down. I work in an
Amiga store, and we've gotten a second revision of KS 2.0 since the 3000
came out. It's still called a BETA version. The first version would crash
while doing fills in DPaint! Be patient; it has to be PERFECT before it's
locked into ROM. It took a LOT longer to get the relatively bug-free v1.2
out on the market...
