WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO FIND REASONABLE BUSINESS APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE FOR A UNIX (TM) OPERATING SYSTEM !!!! Recently, I was assigned to try and locate a project scheduler and a word processor for a VAX 11/780 running UNIX (TM) version 4.1. I was only able to locate a few packages among the large number of applications packages out there. These packages were either prohibitively expensive or (in the case of the word processor) were extremely simple-minded (word processors that elaborated on nroff or just did simple key mapping in conjunction with the vi editor). Most of the time the vendor simply didn't support UNIX, but claimed, "we do support VMS and we do have plans to port our product to UNIX in the near future." What is the problem? Is my research incomplete or are vendors still extremely tentative about supporting business applications software for UNIX? A recent request for information on the net for this type of software drew an incredible response. No answers, mind you, just a lot of people looking for these packages as well. Can anybody out there tell me where I can find a project scheduler and/or a word processing package that is reasonable? If you know about these you will be helping out a lot of people. As usual...Thanks in advance, Colin J. Kempter 6655 Lookout Road Boulkder, CO (303) 530-3905 sdcsvax!bmcg!asgb!colin
