My department is changing over to multiple departmental (UNIX) machines. As a part of the changeover, the dialup facilities currently dedicated to the old machine are going to be connected to a network terminal server from which I will have to connect (over an ethernet) to the machine I want to connect to. This will mean that I will no longer have a direct serial link to any of the machines on campus that I have accounts on. What will this do to DNET? Can it handle this type of indirection? -- Fred Clauss INTERNET: fredc@isc.umr.edu (preferred) P.O. Box 815 or fredc@ee.umr.edu Rolla, MO 65401 BITNET: S081192@UMRVMA

A friend and I have been using it over several connections without trouble, though the setup is not exaclty what you will be using. We call into one UNIX machine and then rsh to the machine in our offices where we actually run the other DNET. It seems to work fine, though we are having response problems most likely related to the Courier HST modems we are using. The terminal concentrator could cause problems from control characters for start/stop or buffering. Good luck -- Alan Bair SPS CAD Motorola, Inc.
