[comp.sys.amiga] Bizzarre problem with Phoenix Power Supply

megabyte@chinet.chi.il.us (Dr. Megabyte) (10/22/90)

I recently acquired a Phoenix CPS-500 power supply as a replacement for my
stock power supply for my Amiga 500. I boughtit used and it is acting
very, very, vert strangly. Here iswhat is does:

When I connect it to my Amiga 500, and turn on the power, things look right
as the Amiga 500 powers on and the screens displays the icon asking me to
insert my workbench diskette. When I do so, the disk begins to boot, but
then, after a bit of disk spinning, the screen goes blank and either,
a)nothing further happens, but the drive light stays on, b) I get a
software guru meditation error, or c) It looks like it might be booting,
but it have garbage all over the screen and then I get the software guru
meditation error.

Does anyone have any idea as to what may be wrong? It seems to me that the
Amiga either should or shouldn't be getting the right power and voltage,
but it looks like it does until begins to boot? Can anyone give me any
help with this? Would it be worth it to have phoenix repair the unit? Any
help would be appreciated.
