[comp.sys.amiga] problems with amax II and term progs

DSK@IBM.COM (10/02/90)

I friend of mine works for GVP and has direct contact with Readysoft,
he says that they have found a bug in the serial routines. It is really
bad on the a3000, I can't even download.

I have not had any problems with the serial routines with
my A3000.... I use FreeTerm (Xmodem) without ANY problems.

Give FreeTerm a try (if you can get hold of a copy)...

For me, downloading is not the problem, but sending data via parallel
or serial is the biggie...sending to my HP IIP or to my room-mate's
Mac Plus is near impossible...garbage in the x-mission...

I spoke to readysoft about the problem and they said the bugs are
fixed and to just FAX them a copy of the registration card and they'll
send out the new copy to you...

What are they going to do about it? We can't download under Amax II with
my friends 2000 either. I also tried it on my Amiga 1000 and it won't work
either. On the 2000 it works for a while then bombs, on the 1000 it doesn't
even begin to work (We used Zterm and some other program)

So why have I never had a problem? I'm using it now...

Gee I don't know. When did you get your version of Amax II? We got one of the
first ones, we had it ordered before they had it released. Maybe you have a
fixed version?

Which terminal program are you using? Zterm will work sometimes and sometimes
it won't. We set up a script file to send over several files with Zmodem from
our unix machine and Zterm would start out fine then bomb after an arbitrary
number of files came thru unscathed. Sometimes it would work on 5 files,
sometimes only 2 files, but it would always crash. And the same results using
different terminal programs and recieving the files by hand rather than running
the script file. The script file was basically just a file on the unix machine
that said:

sz file1
sz file2
sz file3
...
This was running Amax II on a stock amiga 2000 with 2091 hard drive
and 3 megs of memory.
On my amiga 1000, Zterm wouldn't even talk to the modem at all.
We want to call Readysoft but can't find their damn phone number in any of
the documentation!!!

Note: The Computer Shoppe (the company I sometimes work for ;-)
just recieved an update AMAXII diskette from readysoft which
supposedly fixes bugs with:
1) Serial and Parallel Port Conflicts (are you getting random bits when
   printing out??
2) 16 bit memory cards in a true 32 bit machine (i.e. A3000 with zorroII
   memory cards).
