I am sitting here composing this letter on the console of my new A2630 equipped Amiga. What an incredible blast. I just installed the beast this afternoon, and was immediately dragged away for family affairs (yes, I know, I should look into my priorities), so I haven't tested everything. But the preliminary estimates show close to a 2x performance increase over my A2620. The actual ratio is in the ballpark of 1079/602 for this specific program I have been developing. I have not tried '030 specific Lattice compile of the program, either. A few demos, such as Klidex of recent BADGE fame, go almost too fast to see what is going on. So, basically, I'm thrilled, ecstatic, and very pleased. Go out and purchase one if you have the bucks.

Come on gang. Just because we can discuss the next five years of Amiga development in two weeks on the net, doesn't mean that Commodore can do the work any faster. "Things. Take. Time." -- Piet Hein. We JUST got a marvelous new computer with a > twelvefold speed increase AND a new, dressy OS out in beta AND a SYSV4 system out in beta AND a fabulous multimedia authoring system. It's not that Commodore, a small company still struggling financially, hasn't been stretched thin as a wire working their collective buns off for us. These are exciting times for the Amiga. A little more gratitude and a lot less bitching is in line. Here's mine: "Thanks, Commodore gang! Great job! We love you! Keep up the good work! (But don't burn out!)" /// It's Amiga /// for me: why Kent, the man from xanth. \\\/// settle for <xanthian@Zorch.SF-Bay.ORG> <xanthian@well.sf.ca.us> \XX/ anything less? -- Now can I have a job? ;-)

A few days/weeks later I noticed someone was using that phrase as an anonymous quote... then when I returned to school this fall and started reading comp.sys.amiga, I see that this phrase is being attributed to Piet Hein. Now, I know I'm not the only person who's said "Things. Take. Time.", but I think that in this case the quote was 'heard' from me. Anyway, I release any copyright I may have had on that phrase. Use it as you will. You can even attribute it to someone named Piet Hein. BTW, while all of the above *is true*, I hope you don't take this all too seriously. :-) | Baird McIntosh | c503719@umcvmb.missouri.edu <-or-> c503719@umcvmb.bitnet | | COOL DRIVING TECHNIQUE #23: Drive without brake lights. | | (Light deactivation method is unimportant; just try to appear oblivious.) |

Piet Hein was a famous dutch admiral/buccaneer who kicked the living shit out of, among others, the spanish. They still remember him fondly as the guy who hijacked their 'silverfleet'. As of today he's still remembered in a rhyme: Piet Hein, Piet Hein, his name may be small, but his deads are great, he has won the silverfleet. (well, it rhymes in dutch). And ofcourse the rhyme is used to promote a type of savings account called 'silverfleet' (what else :) which offers nice interest. What a way to make history! He didn't speak English very well, though. :)

In any case, when did Piet say "Things. Take. Time."? :-) | Baird McIntosh | c503719@umcvmb.missouri.edu <-or-> c503719@umcvmb.bitnet | | COOL DRIVING TECHNIQUE #23: Drive without brake lights. | | (Light deactivation method is unimportant; just try to appear oblivious.) |

Of course, as you tell it, Piet said "Things Take Time" while the quote I was claiming is "Things. Take. Time." :-) I really am going to drop this now, but isn't this just a wee bit better than the New Mac/Mac Classic/Cherry Mac discussions? No?
