[comp.sys.amiga] Advice wanted - B2000, Pro-Board

phupp@warwick.ac.uk (S Millington) (10/18/90)

I am currently thinking of upgrading from my A500 to a B2000. I have been
told that the A2090A is the B2000 version of the A590. Is this correct?
(the price seems _very_ high relatively). If not what is the A2091 like,
opinions appreciated. Also is it possible to plug a PC-hard card in and mount
an Amiga-DOS partition on that? (small PC-hard cards are _very_ cheap over
here at the moment)
My other question concerns Pro-Board, a pcb design package. Has anyone
with experience of using it, or others on the amiga, got any
comments/advice on whether on not to buy it?
Thanks in advance. E-mail if you prefer. I will post a summary if
requested.

BTW- I would be getting the education package: B2000, XT-bridgeboard, 1084S.

The A2091 is the 2x00 equivalent of the A590. The A2090a is not being
made or sold anymore. The major different, from a users point of view, between
the 590 and 2091 is that the 590 allows an IDE drive in addition to the SCSI
drives, and the 2091 doesn't.
If you have a Bridgeboard, you can add a PC hard card and partition at
least some of it for Amiga use. this is very slow, though, and you will not be
able to autoboot from it.

Pro-board is easily the best PCB layour package available for the
Amiga. That doesn't mean it can compete with the higher end layout packages
for the PCs though. It's pretty easy to use, has few significant bugs and
runs on a 3000 under 2.0. :-) I've been pushing it's limits now for several
years and wish there were something better... The price is especially good
now that Creative Computers has their special deal going. We bought Pro-Net
and Pro-Board together for BEJED for $289 a month or so ago. (Now I can do
layout at work as well as at home. :-) )

:BTW- I would be getting the education package: B2000, XT-bridgeboard, 1084S.

I nearly got sold one, new from a dealer, last week for 800quid - ~$1500.
I'm glad I asked for the net wisdom first.
     Thanks to everyone who replied.
