[comp.sys.amiga] SNAP under 2.0 AmigaOS problem

eb15+@andrew.cmu.edu (Edward D. Berger) (10/15/90)

I'm trying to use the SNAP "cut and paste" program on my A3000 under 2.0,
but am having problems with text "snapping".
1.) Usually can't see the "Ants" on the default grey workbench.
2.) Snapping results in ????????? ??????? ??????? ??????
    instead of text.

I use Courier 13 as my system default text, and Times 11 for workbench icon
and screen text. I'm only trying to snap to Courier.

Oh this is SNAP1.4
Is there a newer version, or a fix other than maybe changing my fonts to
topaz (haven't tried, and don't want to.).

I get this when I don't line up the region I am snapping carefully
enough.

1) That's because the ants are one pixel on, one pixel off (or is it 2,2?)
which blends to gray. You can define your own spacing for ants, so
try using something brighter, like (3 of bright color, 1 of dark).

2) Snap tries to find the character offsets of each window seperately.
if you start snapping for the first time on a space, Snap will
get confused because the space could be at any offset. If you
start your first snap on a character, this should stop.

Actually, I'm very glad that Snap seems to work under 2.0! I was sure
that that would have broken :-)

Doesn't 2.0 have character mapped console windows so that they can be
refreshed when resized? I would think that there would be some way of
examining the character map so that you could clip text without
needing to do character recognition.

All the programmer needs to do is make the Window Clipable, and all is there -
Running with any external software on a 2.0 machine is redundant.

Unfortunately, 2.0 only went half way. This only works on a console window,
if I understand correctly, meaning you still have no way to clip from any
of the other windows. Hence there is still a need for Snap.

And the console snipping in 2.0 doesn't use the clipboard!

But snap can snap from any bit map text, including requesters, window
text etc, not just consoles.
