[comp.sys.amiga] A1080 beginning to die...

tadguy@abcfd01.larc.nasa.gov (Tad Guy) (10/27/90)

My A1080 monitor (dated Nov '85) is beginning to bite the dust...

Normally I leave it on all the time (with a screen blanker). When I
moved a few months ago, I noticed that when I turned it on, the screen
was jittery and, near the center of the screen, a group of scan lines
grouped together, making it hard to read the center of the screen.
The bottom of the screen was fine, and the top was ok (the top few
scan lines were beginning to get further apart).

This problem went away when the monitor had been on a few minutes, so
I said, ``Ok, it's getting just. Just needs to warm up a bit...''

Well, the few occasions I've turned the monitor off, I've noticed the
same effect, but gradually worsening. Each time it went away after
warming up...

Today though, we had a cold spell, and I left the window open. My
apartment was cool (not really cold, around 65F), and the band in the
center of my screen had returned and hasn't gone away. I suspect if I
turn on the heat it'll go away, but I suspect this is a forebearer of doom...

I'm comfortable with working on monitors (like tweaking the trim
pots), and have done so in the past, but I can't think of one that
would make sense for this.

Anyone seen this? I'm willing to take it into the shop (if I can find
one where I now live), but if this is something I can fix with either
an adjustment or minor surgery, I'd just as soon do that...

Suggestions?
