communix@sco.UUCP (communix) (12/31/83)
We intended to send this over the net earlier, but had problems getting it out. Our apologies. However... /usr/group is featuring a special issue on UNIX Networking and Communication in the February/March 1984 CommUNIXations. The deadline for submission of articles is JANUARY 6, 1984. If you have something already written (for UniForum, or elsewhere) or can write quickly, please contact me as soon as possible...UUCP submissions may be able to have more time, if we receive a detailed abstract by January 6. As most of our readers are not familiar with Usenet, short letters or case histories of "How to use Usenet" would be most appropriate. Our policies and advice on approach and slant are listed below. As a non-profit organization, the articles we publish must be educationally oriented. Length: Product-oriented articles: 500-800 words; General issue articles: up to 2000 words. Deadline: Friday, January 6, 1984. Approach: Articles; Reviews; Letters to the Editor; Bibliographies; Network design considerations; Future directions and implications; Novel applications; Current problems and limits; Choosing a communications system. Style/Content: Educational, non-biased; UNIX oriented, most readers are already users; Professional, literate; Emphasis on problems, issues, trade-offs, design considerations; -Do not use product name in first paragraph or title; -We cannot publish prices or market data; -We will ruthlessly eliminate superfluous adjectives. Author Credit: Include your company affiliation, position, address and phone; Experience with UNIX networking/communications; Review: We send a draft of issue's content in manuscript form; Author's have 1 week to review and respond; Articles subject to post-review editing. Format: Via uucp, using any macro set; Via paper manuscript: double spaced, typed, single-sided. Address: August Mohr, Editor, CommUNIXations P.O.
