[comp.sys.amiga] omega

michael.hainsworth@canremote.uucp (MICHAEL HAINSWORTH) (12/16/89)

Are there any OMEGA programmers out there? If you write these Cybertank
simulation programs, I'd really like to hear from you. I've just got
the program and find the Author's competition to be very frustrating.
Any words from out there would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MDHains, Cybertank Programmer.

I have done a little OSI programming, and currently have passed 5-6
(I forget which) evaluations, so I am not sure I understand your
frustration. If you give me some more details, I would be glad to try
to help.

Just a hint, I tried to make my first tanks *FAR* too complicated.
Make a simple tank, and fine-tune it after each evaluation.

Second hint, at early evaluations, firing fast and firing alot is
probably the most important.

Drop me a line if you want to discuss this further.

For thoses of you who have never heard of/ played omega, it
is similar to hack or rogue, but it is much more complex.
There is a city, several towns, a wilderness, lots of dungeons
a multitude of monsters, lots of spells, magic items etc.
there are also several quests to complete, all in all it is
an excellent game (good enough that I was willing to port it
to the amiga, so that I could play it over break.). To all
amiga owners, enjoy!
NOTE: Omega requires 1MB of memory!

If you have access to FTP, then you can get it from:
drycas.club.cc.cmu.edu
in [.amiga-sig]omega.zoo

It is also on a fred fish disk (230 I think).

	RE Omega

Omega is also the name of a cyber-tank game from Origin, comparable to
RobotWar, Crobots, Battledroids, and a myriad other titles.

It's got a nice programming language, but it's also got some strange
bugs and won't multitask. (It's another wonderful Micro Magic port...). I
liked it when I first got it, but now I wouldn't recommend it unless they fix
it. (And discover how programs on an Amiga SHOULD work!)

That's funny it seemed to work with VT100 well enough. It did do some weird
things to WB though. I wish they had put the manual in some sort of binder
as it's hard to lay the book open without having something really heavy to
keep it open (wish I could find my book holder...8-)..).--

I have a copy omega for the amiga compiler with my curses library. It is a
good example of the performance of my curses V1.20.

If you want a copy then email me and I will gladly send you one.

I have posted to c.b.a. but I dont expect to see that come back for a while,
Tad appears to be very busy at the moment.

P.S. Rick Golemwielski I have lost your email address so get in touch if you
want this to compare against your omega port.

Cheers
