[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga vs Macs, IBM's, etc

dsherif@csserv2.ic.sunysb.edu (Darin D Sheriff) (11/05/90)

Here on campus at SUNY at Stony Brook, there are a lot of people using
IBM clones. A very few have Macs (Too expensive). My snobbish IBM friends
are forever telling me to buy an IBM clone like theirs, the reason being that
they have more software. My protesting to the contrary (at least for what I
require) seems to fall on deaf ears. Many of them seem to be too far gone
(due to brainwashing I suppose) to even see the difference between my Amiga
and their clone. The funny thing I would like to point out though is that
a lot of people who need access to a computer come to me for help rather than
to them despite their crowing of superior machines. In my experience, it is
so easy to explain to novices how to use the workbench and other programs, that
I can leave them alone after half an hour and not have to hold their hands
every step of the way. I do not see this happening too often on an IBM clone.
The novices like using the Macs in the Computer center due to ease of use
but there is not enough to go around.

If Commodore were to advertise their machines around campus I am sure they
could sell an awful lot of the beasts. (hint hint).
