I was installing files on my HD and happened to notice that the version number of the WB that my controller disk installed was different from another disk I had. Which led me to the question: Where exactly is the WB? Is it a specific file or is it inherent to the loadwb command or is it a collection of files and programs? It cannot be the entire disk because removing certain commands does not change the WB itself. If I wanted to upgrade the version on my HD, is there a set of files I can copy from the higher version floppy? Or is the only way to do this by installing it using the HD formatter that came with the controller (in which case, it isn't worth the hassle)? Part one is in ROM, and I'm not for sure what's all there, but it includes the window system, layers.library, and stuff like that. Part two is LIBS:icon.library and provides functionts for handling icons. The existence of this library greatly cuts the size of C:loadwb. The last part is,indeed, C:loadwb. It Doesn't do much itself, but basically triggers the other parts. > > If I wanted to upgrade the version on my HD, is there a set of files I can > copy from the higher version floppy? With 1.2 ===> 1.3(.2) it's possible to upgrade simply by adding the new files. However, with 2.0 you'll need the new ROM and it'd probably justbe easier to back up the disk, install the new files, and put the programs that work on the disk. > > Thanx, > > Agitator > #-> > > -- > "Caltech -- A Division of rolee@jarthur.claremont.edu // InterNet > Harvey Mudd" rolee@hmcvax.bitnet // BITNET > -------------- R E M E M B E R B E I J I N G -------\\-//------------- > Roderick Lee "The Professional Agitator" Harvey \X/ Mudd College -Joseph Hillenburg UUCP: ...iuvax!valnet!joseph ARPA: valnet!joseph@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu INET: joseph@valnet.UUCP

The only way to *really* be sure what you have is to check file sizes and checksums of your files. I've never found a list of correct checksums though, nor have I found a standard program that makes them. Eric Stern stern@unix.cis.pitt.edu
