[comp.sys.amiga] ARP / RAD: problem

arxt@quads.uchicago.edu (patrick palmer) (11/03/90)

I have a problem using ARP. I want to make a rad: workbench so that I
can do warm reboots without inserting the Workbench disk. Under
Amigados, this worked fine. But, with ARP, on warm reboot, it asks for
the workbench disk. After it proceeds far enough through the
startup-sequence to check rad:, it finds c: there, and transfers
control to rad: and runs through the rest of the startup-sequence from
rad:.

I have spent about a day now checking that I did not screw up anything
obvious, and I have tried to do the same thing on both an A1000 and an A2000,
and obtained the same results. Is there something special about startup-
sequences with ARP commands? Everything works fine, except for warm reboots.
I am completely mystified, and would welcome any information from anyone
who has been able to reboot from rad: under ARP.

Some relevant facts. Both machines have expansion memory and use 1.3
kickstart (of course). My mountlist entry for rad: is exactly the
same for ARP as for Amigados, except for the addition of the PIP:
device. (I use the old filesystem, and do not specify bootpriority or
startup in the mountlist - they seem to default to the right thing
under Amigados.) The startup sequences differ only in that ARP
commands (and ARP piling up of mount and assign commands) are used. I
am really stuck - and frustrated.

I'm unsure as to the differance between amiga dos, and arp, and how that effects
you, but I did manage to boot from the ram disk, by setting its boot pri to 20.
