[comp.sys.amiga] AntiFlicker Success

pallen@sysp1.hq.af.mil (Pete Allen) (11/11/90)

Since noting such a glowing review in AmigaWorld I downloaded AntiFlicker
from Genie. Unfortunately, though I read the dox and stuck it in my startup-
sequence, I haven't seen any difference whatsoever in my display.

I'm using a regular old 1080 in interlace. Is this program intended for some
other model monitor, or is it just that I've chosen colors that the program
doesn't think need modification?

Has anyone else had negative effects using anti-flicker?

I looked at this program. All it did was make the display fuzzy. *Ouch*
It made my eyes hurt. I suggest the following if you use a hi-res display
without a flickerFixer or similar Commodore product:

  1. Situtate the computer in a dim room. If there's a lot of sunlight
leaking in, you're gonna have too much glare and too much flicker.
Also, place lights to the side or back of the monitor to minimize
      reflections.

  2. Run 'Palette' everytime you use the hi-res display. Palette is on
the Workbench 1.3 Extras disk and takes fairly little memory to run.
(I don't know how much memory it takes, but the word 'fairly' above is
a relative term and is based on personal opinion. So please no one
post saying 'No way, man! Palette is a memory hog!!!')
Instead of clicking the OK gadget after setting the colors, just push
the Palette window to the back until you get the urge to change the
      colors again.

  3. Finally, the colors: use a dim background color--all three color
components should be set below 8 (midrange). Use a dark (black)
text color (on Workbench). Dim the other two colors to your taste.
You have to experiment and balance between appealing colors and
reduced-flicker colors--often you must sacrifice aesthetics to save
your eyesight. What a predicament! :-)

Unless you run a screen with all colors the same :-), you will still notice
some flicker. Oh well....save your pennies for a real solution.
