[comp.sys.amiga] A500 HD for sale

antunes@ASTRO.PSU.EDU (Sandy Antunes) (11/12/90)

Hi! I'm selling my hard drive (because I've modified my system so much it isn't really
an amiga anymore... i'm now trying to string together some other drive i got).
It's a Seagate 64 meg (never had the spin-up problem in 3 years!) with a CLtd controller
that fits onto the expansion port. The drive itself is external, in a case that has an
independent power supply (so the A500's wimpy supply isn't taxed) and a fan (for cooling).
The case has room for another drive if you want to later daisy-chain one... the controller
can handle up to 7 scsi devices. The cable connecting the two is around 6 feet overall, so
you can put the drive decently far from the mayhem of your desktop.
The controller has a pass-thru, though fairness has me warn that something like 25% of all
A500's don't like having more then one device on the expansion port (anyone who has the
statistics on this can comment if they'd like!)-- I don't know why and I don't think Commodore
knows, but I figured I'd warn anyone interested who already has a device on the expansion bus.
Since the controller doesn't have space for on-board ram, I thought this might be significant,
since most ram expansion for the A500 is through the expansion port.
If you'd like I can format and partition it any way you'd like, it presently is 3 20-meg
partitions. Also, I can include around 40 meg of PD stuff (that's mostly what's on it).
I have heard that it's best policy to re-low-level format a hard drive when you've positioned
it in its new home (ANY hard drive, not just mine!) so it's your choice. Comes with full
software (scsidos, some custom HD utilities like error checking and easy formatting and
disk recovery and such), including the 3.0 scsidos upgrade (which I never bothered to
reformat to use).
So, CLtd controller + 64 meg half-height drive + case (with room for another drive) +
power supply + fan + 6 foot cable + software + free pd stuff (i take requests)
+ postage paid (including insurance and COD) ============= $600 (negotiable)
Seriously negotiable- if no one offers $600 within a week, highest offer takes it.
                                                                     sandy
