[comp.sys.amiga] MED 2.13 on the 3000

C503719@UMCVMB.MISSOURI.EDU (Baird McIntosh) (11/15/90)

For those of you with Amiga 3000s wishing to run MED, I used the SonixPatch
program to patch MED 2.13 and it seems to work ok on my *2000* (2 0 0 0). I
am playing one of my own MED songs as I type this into Handshake, so I
assume MED likes ciab as much as ciaa for its timing. Anyway, someone with
a 3000 will have to test it out to see if this makes MED ok for the 3000.
If someone mails me requesting it, I will put a .lzh file containing the
*patched* MED 2.13 executable in PowerPacked and unPowerPacked form on
abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov. For those with the access, here is what I did to
patch MED 2.13:

   Utilities used: abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov:incoming/amiga/SonixPatch.lzh
PowerPeak's PowerPacker v2.3b (on a Fish disk; which?)

1. Load MED2.13 into PowerPacker. It should automatically decrunch the file
as it loads. The SonixPatch 'patchs' program will not work if the input
file (MED2.13 in this case) is crunched. Note: I patched v2.13 of MED
because my v2.10 was crunched with a cruncher that PowerPacker 2.3b does
   not recognize.
2. After MED2.13 decrunches, you should have a file of 140088 bytes.
*Save* this file. Assume you save it as 'MED2.13.nocrunch'.
3. Using the 'patchs' program from SonixPatch.lzh, type this in the shell:

   patchs -v MED2.13.nocrunch MED2.13.patched

Note: the -v option allows you to see what 'patchs' patches in MED. There
         are 10 patches performed.
4. Copy MED2.13.patched to your work disk and test it out. You may want to
re-crunch it to save disk space. I haven't tried that yet, but if you
have PowerPacker, it should be no trouble.
5. Test it on a 3000 and report your findings here! (I don't have immediate
   access to a 3000)

By the by, is there a problem running MED on a 3000, under 2.0, or both??
I'd be interested to know if this works.
