[comp.sys.amiga] Putting The Toaster In A 3000

schur@isi.edu (Sean Schur) (11/14/90)

Has anyone attempted and succeeded/failed to put a Toaster in a 3000?
I am aware of the known problems. 1) the 6 BNC's physically don't fit
through the openings in the back of the machine. It is possible to remove
or "alter" the back of the machine to have it fit. 2) There is a software
incompatibility between the Toaster software and the new Denise chip.
It is possible to replace the new Denise with an old Denise.

Newtek has said that they have made a Toaster work in a 3000. But I do
not know of any other alterations they may have made. Understandably
they won't discuss it and say it will void the warranty on both the
3000 and the Toaster if you try it. However, we have 12 3000's and
two Toasters and no way to run them. So we MAY make an attempt.
I just thought I'd ask if anyone else had tried.

Physically, there is not all that much problem. Yes, you can move things
around to get the BNC's to fit.
The machine will not boot, though. WHY? Who knows, but while it does not do
any Damage to eithor piece of equipment, the A3000 just plane does not boot.
This is too bad. Since the 2630 does not seem to have a RAM expander yet
(To break the 4M barrier for the 32Bit RAM), the A3000 was a very good choice
for a lot of people. We're now left with some 'not so hot' solutions for some
customers.

Hmmm I don't know what the problem is with your 3000, but the
Toaster boots FINE in the system that I have seen.... both in
1.3 and 2.0! Did you change the Denise chip? Perhaps there
is a different problem with the 3000....

Has anyone else put a Toaster in an A3000????
