Converting Macintosh "SoundEdit" files to Amiga IFF-Format ---------------------------------------------------------- With a lot of help from members of this NEWSGROUP, I have worked out how to convert Macintosh "SoundEdit" files to Amiga IFF-Format. The process is actually quite simple : 1. Convert your Macintosh "SoundEdit" files to Amiga format, without conversion of file format, using MAC-2-DOS. The latter program requires the use of a Macintosh external floppy disk drive, which is connected to your Amiga computer. 2. Using the version of the Public Domain program "wave", which can be obtained on "cucug015" in the public domain disks archived on "ux1.cso.uiuc.edu", load the file using the non-IFF format option. 3. The file is converted to IFF-format, using a number of manipulations that are available with "Wave" : firstly, reverse the phase of the sound file; then adjust the pitch ( for a sampling frequency of 22KHz/Sec, a pitch of 163 is about right ). 4. You can also change the "NAME" field, in the IFF-format file. 5. Finally, save using the IFF-format save option and you have produced a file which can be played by your Amiga programs. NOTES ----- A) There are a number of useful IFF-format file utilities available on Fred Fish PD disks : Filemaster ( Version 1.2 ) on #361 allows you to examine the contents of the files that you are manipulating in Hexadecimal and ASCII format. CheckIFF on #81 allows you to make certain that the file that you have created is in correct IFF-format. PerfectSound on #50 is good for playing back your files and doing further editing. B) This is a useful facility because it makes available most of the sound samples that are available on Macintosh Publiuc Domain to the Amiga user. Also, you can digitize sounds using Macintosh equipment, edit the resulting files using "SoundEdit" and then transport the resulting files across to the Amiga. Rick Yuan Adelaide, AUSTRALIA
