[comp.sys.amiga] I'm leaving uni - what should I ftp before I go?

johnm@spectrum.cs.unsw.oz.au (John Marley) (11/17/90)

Yes, I'm graduating at the end of this year and may not have access to the net
anymore =8^( So, before I go I plan to have a mega-ftp binge and get the
ultimate best of everything - archivers, games, editors, ray-tracers, external
disk drive click stoppers, whatever! But, I don't know which ones to get!

This is where YOU come in. This is your big chance to tell me (and/or the
world) what you think are the most indispensible programs ever written for the
amiga. If there's some program you just think everyone should have, then don't
be shy drop me a line, if you know where it can found on ftp or fetchfile, then
tell me that too.

Oh, I've presently got an Amiga 500, A501, and external drive. But don't that
limit your suggestions. If you think you should suggest something that
requires umpteen megs of memory then still tell me, 'cos hopefully I'll have a
nice fun job next year that pays heaps of money so I can buy that 3000 I've
been dreaming about, with all the optional extras.

Thanks in advance,

PS: The Computer Science Department here at UNSW had an A3000UX for a couple of
weeks, on loan from Commodore on trial as a graphic workstation. We've
presently got a network of about 250 Apollos, and the Department's planning to
get a whole bunch more in the near future, and it sounds like Commodore wants a
bit of the action. My impressions? Looked very nice, X was a bit slow, but
not to bad with the 8 megs. It fit into the ethernet fine, and some of us
telneted into it from our Apollos. They wouldn't let you look at 2.0 though.
