[comp.sys.amiga] two hd's

nishan@uop.edu (Nishan Sandhar) (11/15/90)

I've currently got installed in my 2000 a C. Ltd. Kronos controller card,
and a Seagate 296N drive. I'm getting another drive and controller (I'm
gonna sell the Kronos and Seagate), and I'd like to copy the files on the
seagate to the new drive. Can I do this without having to use a daisy-chained
scsi cable system, or can I leave the Seagate and Kronos connected, and go
ahead and connect the new card (gvp Series II) and drive (LXT200S), format
the new drive, and then just copy the files over???

I don't have a backup program, so should I maybe just backup everything (60Meg)
to floppies, manually, and then restore???? Any other options, cause this
one will take kinda long and too much work...

E-mail only please, since I don't get to read the news very often. If there
are sufficient requests, I'll post a response...

I did just that with a 2091 controller and a hardframe controller
without any problems. I don't know if it was just dumb luck that it
worked without having to pay attention to the actual device number but
I've done this twice with so far with my hardframe and different 2091
controllers. The one thing I did do was use the hd utility to name one
hd as PH0: since the hd one my other controller was already DH0:. I
think I remember problems if you have two drives with the same name.
After copying the files you can safely rename PH0: back to DH0: if you
want. This info is written only to the rigid disk block. Just don't
change anything else like partition size or you may lose files!
