Eisler I use FIXDISK from fish disk 223, and CUGUG disk 20, And I am very satisfied with it. It can validate and rebuilt a directory from fileheaders, or rebuilt file-headers from directory entries, delete files, undelete files etc. It never failed to fix any disk for me. Don't mean to keep bugging everyone, but I am still VERY confused about ram expansion and hard drives with my 1000. Here is what I mean... I heard someone say that the 590 SCSI card and drive package for the amiga 500 works with the 1000?????? I just plug it in and thats it? So I can get ram expansion on this too and it works? Ok, I am looking at an article now for SupraDrive 500xp. Its for the 500 of course, but the package is excellently priced! 40 meg with 2 meg ram for 659$. Will this work with my 1000? If not why? Why will the 590 work? I need flat advice from experienced 1000 hard drive users or for that matter someone who knows alot about this (hardware specialist). Money is an object! I am trying to get 2 megs and a had drive for 600$. (as I said before) Do all hard drive controllers have expansion ram? I don't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong SCSI controller and RAM expansion. I am afraid to call a commodore support center cause they will say "1000? Screw you. We stopped making those. We don't have to tell you shit" Or they will say "YEa, buy our product! Its best of course!" or even "Well umm i am not sure but hey yea just plug any joystick in the 2nd port and you can control your hard drive with it dude!". Again, whats the deal with autobooting? Will these drives boot up after kickstart is booted? Or will I have to boot another disk with a SCSI device driver on it or something? Thanks for the replies I have gotten, but I am still confused. I need a simple explanation with 1 or 2 syllable words (grin). haha. If I still don't understand what to get in a week, I am gonna go for the Starboard II with 2 megs and their SCSI controller. (who sells this? Give me a mail order name and number??) I have heard bad things about this, but Its the only thing I am sure will work with my 1000. And I am not even sure then. Remember, I cannot go buy a toolbox then plug in a 2000 SCSI card. That is definately out of budget! haha. Is there no simple solution? a 2 meg ram/30-40 meg hard package for the 1000 for around $600? (+/- 50$) Again, if I get a DEFINATE YES to the SupraDrive 500 XP and ram expansion for the 500 WORKING with the 1000, I will probably get it. Otherwise, I am stuck with SB II and a controller with no drive. 8( Byron Guernsey Byron 'Maxwell' Guernsey | /// //\\ specter@disk.UUCP or | /// // \\ uunet!ukma!corpane!disk!specter | \\\/// //====\\ "All we are, is dust in the wind dude!" - Ted | \\\/ // \\ m i g a

Ram works as well. -Henrik | Henrik Clausen, Graffiti Data | | ...{pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!cbmehq!adspdk!hclausen | \__"Do not accept the heart that is the slave to reason" - Qawwali trad__/
