I anyone using version 1.06 of subject utility on an A3000? I am having some difficulties and am wondering if there is, by chance, a newer version in the works to work with WB2.0? It seems to read disk directories okay, but has trouble with RAM:. It takes a long time to read RAM: and then it hangs on the next action, even copying the directory from one window to another. I have been using ClickDOS for a while, but at our club show yesterday, someone showed me some things in SID and I want to switch. Maybe I should try it on my A1000 to see if I just have a bad version. I would have thought that type of program would have stayed prety stable. Oh well... If anyone knows of a new version and where I might FTP it, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thanks, Dave David K Detert, USAF MILNet: detert@lognet2.af.mil

Since it's almost a year old, the docs don't mention Workbench 2.0 one way or the other. -- Steven Litvintchouk MITRE Corporation Burlington Road Bedford, MA 01730 (617)271-7753 ARPA: sdl@mbunix.mitre.org UUCP: ...{att,decvax,genrad,necntc,ll-xn,philabs,utzoo}!linus!sdl "Where does he get those wonderful toys?"

The author (Timm Martin?) has been working on SID V2.00 for almost a year now. It is AmigaDOS2.0 and 1.3 compatible. Everytime I log on to his BBS there's a message like: Well, last week I re-wrote SID from scratch again to [add this feature] [shrink the executable] [{your message here}] then he tells you about what SID now does and makes you start to drool. Don't get me wrong, I love SID and Timm's doing a great job, but it would be nice if we eventually could use the program! -- Fred Hamilton Any views, comments, or ideas expressed here Harris Semiconductor are entirely my own. SID v2.0 is on the way. Tim Martin is almost done and told me it would be done in about a month. If you want more information you should call his bulletin board on the weekend after 10:00 pm. (813 576-3677). The only way you can gain access is to send him your SID fee. Allen

Just thought i'd et folks know what I've found so far on SID. A few folks indicate they are having the same problems, but 1 indicated no trouble. I am getting his config file to see if there is something to that. 2 folks also indicated there is a 2.00 version in the works that should fix the troubles. One person said it works on his 2000 with WB 1.3, but then I figured that since it works on my 1000. I suspect something about the 68030 is the culprit. Anyway, enough wasted bandwidth. Cheers, Dave >CMSgt David K Detert, USAF MILNet: detert@lognet2.af.mil I myself have been unable to use SID. It seems that SID locks up on an accelerated machine. (I have an A500 w/ Lucas/Frances) My roommate confirms this, as he started having lockups with SID during directory loading after upgrading to an A2500. I love the program, and would gladly pay the shareware fee for a version that works with an '020/2.0. -Vince

A suggestion given to me by Timm Martin for some of you having trouble is to use the VOL button instead of the individual device buttons. He uses 1.06 on his 3000, just has to do some work-arounds such as this. Don't know about accelerated 1000's and such... But I'm interested in V2.00, too, because of some bugs: wrong path for playing sounds, moving dirs, sometimes error-displaying errors, especially in the directory window.... Well, I have tried ALL the suggestions (use VOL button, etc.) and none work for me on my A3000, 2.02 updated WB. I suppose there could be something in the SID.config file, but except for changing the names of editors and show commands, its essentially untouched. As one last ditch effort to get this working BEFORE 2.00 is finished, would one of you who say it runs okay on your A3000, please email me your SID.config file so I can compare it to mine? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Dave CMSgt David K Detert, USAF MILNet: detert@lognet2.af.mil

I have been reliably using SID on my 3000 w/2.02 for a few days now with no problems. I don't use ANY of the buttons (VOL, DF0, DH0, RAM, etc.). I type directly into the box above the directory. For some strange reason, it would lock up my computer. The screen would go black and the only thing that would work is reseting with CTRL-AMIGA-AMIGA. My solution was to shift to V1.03. I don't know what versions you have tried, but if you are using 1.06 then you might try 1.03. The problems with SID and the 68030 were discussed here a while ago - the solution is to turn off the flag that makes SID group all the directories at the head of the file list.
