[comp.sys.amiga] Menubar Task Switching

Thomas.Farmer@bbs.actrix.gen.nz (Thomas Farmer) (11/24/90)

for the program you want to get too... This is especially true when the
number of programs you are running at any one time exceeds about four...

I was thinking that it would be a nice to have a better way to go
straight to a screen. Now I know there is one program wjhich allows you
to select from a menu, but I though it could be better to partly copy an
idea from multifinder...

Would it be possible for each program that is running it's own screen
to put a small icon up on the Workbench menu bar. Then, to change
programs you would just select the appropriate icon.

I think this would be quite good...although the user would have to
create icons for each program they were running. (Some of us enjoy doing
this anyway!!!)

However, unlike mutlifinder (brain dead multitasking) I think it
would be better to have the icons in a row, rather than on top of each
other.

Has anyone done a program to do this? Can it be done? Is anyone
working on something along these lines?

   Ciao...

Firstly do you have one of these nice resident do everything popup programs
that allows you to cycle through screens using Amiga-N or Amiga-M, rather
than the rather useless Workbench to back/front using those keys?
I find it works well like that.

Second, if you're running lots of programs that that use full screens,
won't you really want those icons on all screens, or are you assuming
that the Amiga-N/M combo is there to get you back to the WB first, from
where you flip off to the screen you actually want. (ie put hands to key-
board to hit Amiga-N, then back to mouse to select screen icon?).

Third, I presume you are really talking about *screens* and not windows,
those other GUIs don't have a concept of logical screens like intuition.
Perhaps you really want icons to flip between windows? Thats a different
kettle of AmigaLibDisks.

I don't know if that's possible, but why not, but what do you do
with windows, that cover the menubar or programms, that hide
menubar (is possible with workbench!).

listenig and starting to compute ?
