[comp.sys.amiga] SLIP on the Amiga

garvin@ccvr1.ncsu.edu (Michael Garvin) (11/28/90)

I'm looking into running SLIP on my 1000 at home to a UNIX box at work,
and was wondering which package is better: KA9Q or AmigaNOS. I've played a
little with both, but never had much success (especially with NOS, I'm
totally confused). Could I get some opinions on which to use for this sort
of situation (ie, non AX.25)? Also, if someone has some words of wisdom on
how to get NOS going on the Amiga via SLIP, I'd appreciate that too.
Thanks!

Either of the two would work well for a simple SLIP line, but I would highly
recommend that you take the time to figure out NOS. I am currently running the
AMNOS19 version on both AX.25 and SLIP. It is very stable (unlike previous
versions) and has never guru'ed my machine.

The latest version is available for anonymous FTP from 'thumper.bellcore.com'.
The two files you want are:

AMKIT19.LZH A kit for creating the appropriate directory structure.
        AMNOS19.LZH The source and executables.

While documentation is scarce, there is a 'userref.doc' available that does
explain many of the commands. It is available from the same source.

If you need any help setting it up feel free to EMAIL me.
