[comp.sys.amiga] RAW sample files to Sonix or IFF format Converter ?

borzieri@nqueeg.ICO.Olivetti.Com (Ivan Borzieri) (11/19/90)

Hi there,

I wish to know if there's something in the PD which converts raw sample files
(such as those used with SoundTracker, NoiseTracker, etc.) to the Sonix
or IFF standard format. If yes, where I can find it ?

						Thanx in advance,
						Ivan

You could use an early PD/Shareware version of Perfect Sound. There is a copy
of that program on one of the earlier Fish disks, probably on a disk in the
1-100 range. If you find it, Perfect Sound will allow you to load in raw
samples and create multi-octave IFF instruments. I don't know of any utility
(non-commercial) that does raw->Sonix conversion. Hope this helps.

This is highly unlikely unless someone designs an IFF form that is
capable of what ST/NT/MED is. Put simply: SMUS/IFF can't touch ST/NT and
especially MED.

How so? Could you elaborate a little on how the SMUS/IFF standard
can't hold the information in an ST/NT/MED file?

Now, I don't know what ST/NT/MED can do. SMUS is MIDI but I think the
original poster was asking about samples.

So what about the SAMP IFF format made by Dissidents?
Perhaps there is enough capability there? If not, please explain
what is lacking.

Oh yeah, you can't distinguish between a file format and a player program.
It might be that ST/NT/MED are better player programs than currently
available smus players (e.g. Sonix) but SMUS can cleary describe anything
stored into an ST/NT module.

USE THE PROGRAM "WAVE" ON PD DISK CUCUG015. You can ftp this from "ux1.cso.

SMUS isn't MIDI. SMUS is a file format, MIDI is a protocol.
