[net.general] would you like to be an editor for a high volume newsgroup

mark@cbosgd.UUCP (Mark Horton) (01/26/84)

The newsgroup mod.ber is now working (for most of the net) and is
providing a service I am really impressed by. It contains summaries
of what happened in certain newsgroups. I'm sure many of you used
to read (say) net.misc, but turned it off because you didn't have
time to plow through all that stuff. But now that you've turned it
off, things probably come up every so often that you would find
interesting if you knew about them.

Each week, a single article is posted to mod.ber for each of net.flame,
net.cooks, net.books, and probably a few other newsgroups. This
article briefly summarizes what the discussion in that newsgroup
was about. You can subscribe to mod.ber, unsubscribe to net.flame,
and if something intesting comes up, you can resubcribe to net.flame
as long as it lasts.

The problem is that we have more high volume newsgroups than we have
volunteers to produce summaries. I think we need summaries of most
of the high volume newsgroups, such as net.micro, net.misc, net.followup,
net.unix-wizards, and possibly a few more. If you are interested
in helping out the net by summarizing a big newsgroup you read regularly,
please contact Brian Redman at allegra!gummo!ber.
