Taken from "The View", the newsletter of the Pacific Northwest Amiga Association, Volume 6, No.5 October 1990. "STARTUP-SEQUENCE NOTES CAPS LOCK L.E.D. FLASH One Flash means the keyboard ROM failed Two flashes mean the keyboard RAM failed Three flashes mean the 'watchdog' timer failed Four flashes means a short exists between two row lines or on one of the seven special keys. These flahses come in short bursts with a short interval between them. The LED comes on briefly during self-test; if it goes off and stays off then all is well. You only need become concerned if the boot fails and you see the LED flashing in one of the above sequences."... ----------------------------------------------------------------- George Lin a309@mindlink uunet!van-bc!rsoft!mindlink!George_Lin

My 2000 does this periodically. Usually if I leave it off for a while (15-45 minutes) it fixes itself. The problem usually only occurs for me when I turn the machine off then back on again after too short a wait. Larry -- Larry Cline lcline@sequent.sequent.com lcline@crg8.sequent.com ".sig! : /Does anyone know the significance of the flashing CAP LOCK when the : /machine is switched on ? : Thanks for any help : SJR it means you have a keyboard failure. You might have a loose connection or something inside your computer. I had this problem before on an A500 and reseated my A501 card and it worked fine for some reason, but I know that the flashing led on power up is caused by a keyboard failure. Its used to happen to mine if i switched my amiga on and off too fast. -- *********/// O O **A member of S.H.I.T.
