At the risk of prejudicing those few who have not voted, the group comp.sys.amiga.announce is practically guaranteed to be created in the near future, and will be in full operation in January. I will be the primary moderator, and I would like some help from the net to make this group as useful as possible to, well, the net. The most valuable types of messages I want to put up are announcements from companies serving the Amiga community, especially new product announcements. I am planning on contacting these companies myself, through whatever means are available, to get press releases, etc. from them. I would like some help with this project. Here's how you can help: 1. If there's some company you would like to hear from, send me as much of the following as you know: o Name of the company o Description of what they do (if you think I might not know) o Name & title of publicity officer o E-mail address o Telephone number o Paper mail address I really would like to have a contact, as the most important part of dealing successfully with any company is finding the right person. If you don't know of anyone, that's ok, since (being a former secretary) I have some skill at finding the right person. If the best you can do is the name of the company, that's ok, since I need the suggestions to find out from whom you users want to hear. 2. If you work for a company that you think could be making announcements, please either send me the above information about your company or else (better) get someone in charge of publicity to contact me. Show him (or her) this message, and contact me at either the e-mail address or telephone number below. E-mail is better. If he (she) seems reluctant, just say: it's free, it will target an audience of roughly 50,000 people who own/use Amigas, and the lag time between the announcement and people reading it is 0-5 days (because of net propogation time) instead of the months that magazines take. Then stand back. 3. If (by some miracle) YOU are in charge of publicity, please contact me so we can make arrangements. You do no necessarily have to submit material via e-mail (I type really fast), but it is preferred. I will give you instructions on the proper format for submissions, and what information should be included. There are a couple of minor legal issues, too (I refuse to be liable when I'm not paid). These will be regular postings after the group is created, but until then, I'll have to contact you directly. Please respond via E-MAIL or TELEPHONE ONLY. I will be away from the net for the next 1 1/2 weeks due to time constraints, but I will be checking mail at least 2x daily. For your convenience, I have included the comp.sys.amiga.announce charter. Contact me (Dan) at: zerkle@iris.eecs.ucdavis.edu or (916) 754-0240 Charter For Comp.Sys.Amiga.Announce Name: comp.sys.amiga.announce Moderated: yes Purpose: The "news" group of the Amiga computer newsgroups. Announcements concerning new products and releases of hardware and software, severe bugs and viruses, meetings, and events. Also, brief news reports of interest to the Amiga community. General comments: This is the group that everybody can read quickly to keep up with developments in the Amiga computing community. The traffic is purposely kept low so that users can quickly find important information without wading through an excessive amount of traffic on other issues. This is not an advertising forum. Product announcements should list only the features or improvements of a product, with no sales hype, comments about competing products, or instructions on how to buy. They may list a telephone number or postal address to contact for further information. Any product announcements should include an availability date. Subsequent announcements about any product or event may only include corrections to earlier errors. It is preferred that announcements be from official representatives. Articles from magazines or newspapers are copyrighted and are not acceptable. Questionable sources are verified and confirmed before posting. No discussion of announcements is permitted in this group, as this group is intended to be short and easy to read. Followups for discussion are redirected to the appropriate other groups. For example, followups to an announcement of a new memory card are directed to comp.sys.amiga.hardware. Rejected postings are returned by the moderator with an explanation of the problem and possible suggestions on how to fix it. There is a backup moderator to resolve disputes between the moderator and submitters, and to run the group at times when the primary moderator is unavailable. ---- end of charter ---- Dan Zerkle zerkle@iris.eecs.ucdavis.edu (916) 754-0240 Amiga...
