I have gotten myself confused about addbuffers - see what happens if you read the manuals. 1). Rob Peck clearly says in the Amiga Companion (p.126) that addbuffers increases the buffer space for FLOPPY drives. (My emphasis.) At this point he also points out that addbuffers will use chip ram (not a very desirable result). 2). Other manuals (for example Abacus, Amigados Inside and Out) say that it works on all drives (except ram: for good reason). 3). The system doesn't complain if you use addbuffers for hard drives, and it takes up space, so it is doing something. 4). In mountlists for harddrives, one specifies buffers for the drive. So, what is correct? If one wants additional bufferspace for harddrives, 1) can you use addbuffers? 2) should you use addbuffers? 3) What about buffers (in mountlist) versus addbuffers? That is, can you trade them off against each other, or do they in fact somehow refer to different things. I would be grateful for clarifications. (I happen to have a new GVP controller and a Quantum drive running with 1.3 on an A2000, but I would be interested in the general answer.) Pat Palmer (email: reply or ppalmer@oddjob.uchicago.edu)
