[comp.sys.amiga] MIDI programming using midi.library

jol@sei.cmu.edu (Jun Lee) (12/01/90)

Hi.

Has anyone done any programming using midi.library from Pregnant Badger?
Any strories to tell? I'm interested in listening.
I've wrote some sys-ex dump/receive programs and I'm interested in
writing a full-blown sequencer with it. Is there anything better
than these libraries around (either PD or Commercial)?
I'm using SAS/C 5.1.

BTW, has anyone heard about Keynote language for the Amiga?
I saw it in Keyboard Mag. that it's available for the Ami and I was
wondering where I can get a copy.

Thanks,

send mail to Tim Thompson tjt@twitch.att.com, who developed keynote and
he should be able to tell you how to get a copy, I think you can get it
for $50.00.

I got my first synth about a month ago and have been playing with keynote
on my a500 since then, and have been having so much fun with it that I
haven't gotten around to buying a more conventional sequencer yet. I love to
be able to write my own midi functions and customize my funciton keys and
enviroment so easily. Being a poor pianist I have a nice method set up
to enter music, I play the sequence of notes/chords first out of time, then
play the phrase again banging out the rythmn on one key, and presto one call
to some built in functions and to some of my own and the rythym of one phrase
is applied to the pitch of the other and displayed in the piano roll window.

For those of you who are wondering what keynote is, it is a musical programming
language and interactive shell for manipulating and generating MIDI data.
Algorithmic composition is perhaps its primary application, but it serves well
as a general purpose utility, as a matter of fact the main thing I've been
using it for so far is sequencing stuff.
