I have several questions for the netters "in the know" out there. 1) Is there any other "dynamically adjusting" (i.e. it doesn't eat the RAM it uses) recoverable ram disk available other than the ASDG-rrd off of FF241. I have an A3000/25 and it will not work. If there is no other, is ASDG going to update the older one so that it will work on A3000's? 2) What is the status of SID 2.0? I tried using 1.06 and as long as you use the VOL gadget instead of the device gadgets it will kinda work, but it is very "sluggish" (i.e. it takes over a minute to load up directories sometimes). If SID 2.0 isn't going to be out for awhile is there a work around for this "sluggishness" problem? 3) I have been having problems with ls-4.0 and the earlier version 3.0 as well. It will work OK for awhile and then apparently for no reason I will ls something and my 1950 monitor with go absolutely nuts and start making this ear piercing screaming sound, definately not a pleasant experience. Any ideas? Thanks... vervalin@austin.lockheed.com

I don't know which version you use, but I am using asdg.vdisk.device version 3.0 (6 Aug 86). It has not failed to work just fine on every Amiga I have used it on. -larry -- The only things to survive a nuclear war will be cockroaches and IBM PCs. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | // Larry Phillips | | \X/ lphillips@lpami.wimsey.bc.ca -or- uunet!van-bc!lpami!lphillips | | COMPUSERVE: 76703,4322 -or- 76703.4322@compuserve.com | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+

The author does have an A3000 now, but hasn't had much time for programming lately (this is from a friend that calls the author's BBS). 1) SID does not like the >24 bit address space of the A3000, to fix this, just make a little script: Run NoFastMem SID Run NoFastMem This forces SID to run in Chip RAM, and works around that problem. (If you've only got 1M of Chip RAM, this might be a problem.) 2) SeperateDirs=YES can cause random crashes, change this to SeperateDirs=NO in the s:SID.config file. 3) SID can't extract archives under 2.0, this is because it's looking for NEWCON:. This can be fixed by using NewZap to change all occurences of "NEWCON:xxxxxxx" to "CON:xxxxxxx ". You might also be able to fix this by mounting ConMan as NEWCON:, but I haven't tried that. -- Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland 580 Arapeen Drive, SLC, Utah 84108 blgardne@esunix.UUCP BIX: blaine_g {decwrl, utah-cs}!esunix!blgardne PLink: BlaineG DoD #0046 My other motorcycle is a Quadracer.
