[comp.sys.amiga] Software Compatibility on A3000

paulb@cbnewsk.att.com (paul.l.bidwell) (11/28/90)

I'm about to order an A3000-16 (finally!).

I'm sure this issue has been discussed many times here, but since I'm new,
any advice you can give would help.

My questions concern software compability with the A3000-16.

Will games/programs such as Falcon, MyPaint, TV Sports Football, Where in
the ... is Carmen... work on this machine?

Will PD software such as the Fred Fish disks and software such as Bank'n and
Clerk work?

My personal experience is that the only things that don't work are
commercial games. I have only two commercial games, and neither work.
Bard's Tale I doesn't work, and I expected that, because it is very
obviously a hack. Falcon doesn't work, and that was more surprising,
because I feel like Falcon is a better-written program.

All my PD stuff works fine except one fractal terrain generator. I use DME
and VT100 2.9b frequently. In fact, in some ways they work better on the
3000 than they did on my 1000. There is a problem with VT100, but I made it
disappear and now I can't remember what it was.

I would say that compatibility could only be expected to be moderate. If I
had a favorite application, I'd definitely want to verify that it worked
before paying big bucks.
