[comp.sys.amiga] Using a Bridgeboard in a 3000

jerry@truevision.com (Jerry Thompson) (11/17/90)

I know Commodore does not recommend using a Bridgeboard in a 3000, but I don't
recall seeing an explanation of why it wouldn't work. Does anyone know what
the problem is? Is anyone using a Bridgeboard in a 3000?

i don't think commodore ever "anti-recommended" bridgeboard use in the A3000.
they seem to work fine for me and a bunch of others around here. *HOWEVER*
you *MUST* turn off the 030's data cache *BEFORE BINDDRIVERS*. if you don't,
it won't work. there is also a race condition during software initialization
that can be avoided in most cases by putting any bridgeboard related programs
as far away from the binddrivers command as possible. this race condition
usually won't show up on 68000 systems, but on fast machines it can bite.

Indeed they have! In fact, not only did they anti-recommend, they flatly
refused! In July I tried to order a 3000+Bridgeboard as an Educational
Package, and Commodore cancelled the order, over my loud but futile protests,
on the grounds that the two did not function together correctly.

Two months later, after numerous phone calls, I finally got my money back.

So the official word (right or wrong) is:

the Bridgeboard does NOT work in the 3000.

If yours is working, you must be mistaken. :-)
