[comp.sys.amiga] Bernoulli Box Problem Solved

ndh@lanl.gov (Norman D. Hamer) (12/12/90)

I now have the Bernoulli Box II 44 Meg drive up and running after
litte help from Iomega or Amiga. It turns out that the HDTools under
AmigaDos are quite good. The Tool program can actually determine the
charateristics of the drive and do just about anything to set it up.
However, the FastFileSystem under Dos 2.0 does not reside in dir: l:
you can't find it at all. In this way Dos 2.0 is quite a bit different
from Dos 1.3. I actually went back and did a lot of the set up with
Dos 1.3 as I could not understand Dos 2.0. However, you can get
the FFS on the disk if you just go out of the HDToolBox and use the
format command from the command line with FFS at the end.

It amazes me that the Amiga people do not know that there software is
so good and will handle even unknown type drives.

Once the drive has been formatted and partitioned further cartridges are
recognized by the system and you only have to format them...in fact if
you want different partitioning on each cartridge you will be in trouble
unless you want to go back and reset up the drive each time you change
cartridges...I am trying to see if I can find a way around this.

I have even used an Amax partition on the cartridge and it works also.
The Bernoulli is expensive but it has performance near or equal to my
100 Meg Quantum drive...not bad for a removable cartridge drive.

Well, I hope this may help others trying to get drives going...removable or
fixed.

Where did you get the idea they didn't know?

No flame intended... just curious.
