There are a few. The most common is Matt Dillon's UUCP version 1.06. There is also JDCP. Both of these may be found on various bbs's and ftp sites. Dillon's docs seem to be "sufficiently complete". They ARE good enough to get one setup (you simply have to follow the "SlowSetup" document. Of course, the software is just the half of it. You'll also need what's called a "feed site". In your case, this is a modem connection to another system that handles UUCP (typically some University). You need to talk to the person who's responsible for handling this sort of thing and see if they'll set you up with a special account on their system. Many times this is free. -- ___________________________________________________________________ | **** JUST A REMINDER ***** | |"That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men,| |deriving their just powers from the CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED. Recently my company pulled the alt, rec, and sci newsgroups. To
make up for this I decited to get some of them dumped to my Amiga at
home using uucp. I'm not sure what I've got is the whole thing here.
The doc seam to be not complete. From what I've read the program will
work fine. I can get news from a local site that will pass it on to me.
What I need is some basic and advaced help getting this thing set up.
Like a complete list of the files in it and were I can pick up the whole
program complete if possible. Also other ways to get news would be nice
other than uucp. I have heard of a program called waffle and that
there is an Amiga version. If you've got uucp to work can someone send
me some docs to it.
Thanks in Advance.

Dear Net, Please HELP! I'm having problems running uucp V1.06D on my A2000. Problem #1: When I run getty: run getty -B2400 -Mh -7 -x1 I get the following messages, repeated forever. Sometimes the incoming call connects, but usually the "Timeout, Disconnecting" breaks the connection. Init Modem Init Modem Clear Beg Clear Beg Clear End Clear End Serial Port Unlocked Serial Port Unlocked Carrier Detect Carrier Detect Serial Port Locked Serial Port Locked Carrier, Getty getting on port Carrier, Getty getting on port Getty, Timeout, Disconnecting Getty, Timeout, Disconnecting Disconnect drop=1 Disconnect drop=1 Getty: unable to disconnect! Init Modem ... ... ... Why the double messages? Why do they print forever? Its not supposed to do this, right? Problem #2: When the connection does complete, I get a SECURITY error. I have all possible directories listed rw in the uulib:security file. On the sun, the error message is " REQUEST (remote system can't create temp file)". Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim Mokwa mokwa@aic.nrl.navy.mil
