*** THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR FUTURE ARTWORK DISPLAY *** I know this is going to sound silly, especially in light of all the attention she's getting on the net, but WHO IS KATE BUSH??? I listen to almost all kinds of music, including new wave, progressive rock, avant garde, and lots more, and I've never heard anything by Kate Bush. For a while I was convinced that she was a joke created by net.music regulars to fool new netters; I even went to a record store to check. Since I like almost every album I know in the top of the album survey, there's a good chance I'd like to hear Kate Bush too. Can someone clue me in on her music? Judging from the taste of people who post here, I'd have to guess that she's a cross between Laurie Anderson, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd, whatever that would sound like! By the way, I just spent the summer in the Boston area and turned on WVJV-TV (V66) for part of almost every day, and I never heard her mentioned in any way, nor did I ever hear anything of hers played on WBCN. If she'sBoston's latest rmusical star, I don't think most of Boston knows about it. Thanks in advance for the revelation. Dan Rose (rose@UCSD)

British artrock singer/songwriter/producer/performer. Household name in England since 1978. Famous throughout Europe. Relatively unknown in U.S. (I won't say here greatest musician ever or someone might flame at me.) > I listen to almost all kinds of music, including new wave, progressive > rock, avant garde, and lots more, and I've never heard anything by > Kate Bush. You should hear her then! > Can someone clue me in on her music? Judging from the taste of people > who post here, I'd have to guess that she's a cross between Laurie > Anderson, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd, whatever that would sound like! She defies description, but hey, that's not too bad if you have to come up with one, though you should throw in a lot of Peter Gabriel and maybe a bit of Patti Smith and a tiny bit of Sex Pistols for spice. She's very Lennon/Gabriel/Pink Floyd influenced. If you are adventuresome, start with her previous album, "The Dreaming" (the very best!). Otherwise, start with her new album "Hounds of Love", if you can tolerate a couple (excellent) pop tunes. (A U.S. review I just read says "On 'Hounds of Love', Kate Bush shows that she is capable of making hit music for the public. But you will never catch her compromising her imagination for us. It's too powerful." 5 stars.) Her earlier albums are also quite excellent (though not nearly as good as the two albums mentioned above), but wouldn't match the above description very well, since she's been strongly metamorphosing. > By the way, I just spent the summer in the Boston area and turned on > WVJV-TV (V66) for part of almost every day, and I never heard her > mentioned in any way, nor did I ever hear anything of hers played on > WBCN. Before September, not a peep. "Don't think it over, it always takes you over And sets your spirit dancing" Doug Alan nessus@mit-eddie.UUCP (or ARPA)
