I know that the hamsharp program is a good PD program to convert LO-RES GIF pictures to HAM. It does a not-so-good work on higher resolution pictures. The Art Department (2 versions?) is said to be the best commercial package, and I wonder about it's benefits. I also wonder about pricing. I have GIF files in both low and higher resolutions, what could be done with (for example) a 640*480*256 GIF picture, or a 800*600*256 one? Could an image larger than screen size be converted and the 'best' part chosen and saved? Can images be converted to 24-bit RGB format (DigiView format), which then could be converted to HAM-E LO-RES with 18-bit HAM mode? This is just some quick ideas, if ASDG (Perry) reads this - maybe some info could be mailed to me? If someone could email me HamSharp (only uuencoded or together with the appropriate uncompressor/unarchiver) I would be very pleased.
