I have an Amiga 3000 with a 14.4k v.42 USR modem. Most of the boards I call run on IBM's and the highest xfer rate I have obtained is 1650cps. I here I should get 1700 at least on compressed files (.lzh, etc) Anyone done this?? And also, what is new/different about v.42 as USR didn't send me any xtra paperwork when I upgraded. Duane

The highest speed I have attained is 1654 CPS, but then I don't have the V.42 upgrade. Stuart W. Pierce

It makes a difference. zmodem will generally give speeds around the 1650 bps figure you mention. Ymodem/G is slightly faster; I think this is because it is designed for error correcting modems and it sends less status information. I can routinely get 1720 cps with ymodem/G, and the registered version of JRcomm 1.0. - steve
