I've just posted the newest LIST-OF-LISTS to net.news.group (rather than net.sources). The LIST contains short descriptions of the active ARPANET mailing lists, along with addresses and instructions for subscribing. I've just submitted the newest LIST-OF-LISTS to net.news.group. For people unfamiliar with the LIST, it's an annotated listing of "mailing lists" available from ARPANET. (The network where they only *think* they know how to flame.) Bruce Smith, UNC-Chapel Hill decvax!duke!unc!bts (USENET) bts.unc@udel-relay (other NETworks)

I've just posted the newest LIST-OF-LISTS to net.news.group.
For anyone still unfamiliar with the LIST-OF-LISTS, it's an
annotated listing of the ARPANET's mailing lists. (If you
don't know the ARPANET, it's that dull network-- the one
without net.flame or unc!tim.)
Even if you're not on the ARPANET, it may be possible to
receive these lists, e.g., via CSNet. (Sorry, but I can't
help with that. Contact your local systems administrator.)
Also, some of these lists are already appearing in appropri-
ate USENET newsgroups.

The newest LIST-OF-LISTS has been posted to the
net.news.group newsgroup. The LIST-OF-LISTS is an annotated
list of ARPANET mailing lists. (ARPANET is the network
without wombats.) Many of the moderators will mail their
lists to people *not* on the ARPANET, if you have an address
they can mail to.

Two reasons: 1) It doesn't take too many USENET subscribers to make it cheaper to send the list to all sites as a group. 2) USENET/ARPANET gateways get overloaded with N copies of the same data, instead of 1 copy. This is unfair to the gateway site, and could lead to loss of the service. -len tower harpo!inmet!tower Cambridge, MA
