[comp.sys.amiga] Amax II ang GVP serie 2

buffa@kish.inria.fr (Michel Buffa) (12/18/90)

Does anybody uses AMAX II with a GVP 2 controller (The latest ones). Is this
controller recognized by AMAX II ?

Does anybody used intensively word 3, 4 or 5 with Amax or Amax II. Is there
any compatibility problem ?

Is AMAX II good or not ? I mean, can it be used seriously or is it just a
gadget ?

Thanks.

Dunno about GVP controllers and A-Max II except the A-Max II docs claim
support and compatibility with GVP products. I have no firsthand experience
with that part of A-Max II.

I DO have very extensive experience with A-Max II and MS-Word. Dunno where
you heard about a version 5, but versions 3.02 and 4.0 of Word work flawlessly
with A-Max and A-Max II. In fact just about EVERY productivity package works
flawlessly wih A-Max II. Yes, it can be used as a serious tool, and I, for
one use it that way. I edit large text files (Microstation MDL docs) in
Word and then import them into QuarkXPress and lay them out, all on my
Amiga running A-Max. Then I simply save the files to disk and print them
at work from my Mac IIci there. At home, Adobe Type Manager, Type Reunion,
Boomerang, After Dark, MacDraw, FullPaint, and everything else I've used
work fine. Multifinder seems quirky, but I think that is a problem with
my having only 3 megs and trying to run large appliations; Multifinder
needs lotsa RAM to be effective. (I finally got enough RAM at work on
my IIci to keep Multifinder happy; it took 8 megs!!)

All-in-all, you won't be disappointed with A-Max II.

Amax II does work perfectly with the GVP series II controllers.

Amax II is also one of the best emulators that I have ever seen on any
machine. Most of the software that I have tried has worked.

Some of these packages are as follows:

 - Word Perfect, Microsoft Excel 2.2, Pagemaker 4.0, Prodigy, Powerpoint,
 - Cricket Graph, Mac Paint, Microsoft Word 4.0, and a host of other stuff.
