[comp.sys.amiga] Microsoft Multimedia??

davidm@uunet.UU.NET (David S. Masterson) (12/19/90)

I saw in Computerworld that Microsoft is making a big push into the multimedia
market. They seem to have put out some standards on what it would mean to be
a multimedia application. However, the expectation is not to see much for two
to three years.

Does anyone have info on the Microsoft Multimedia Developers Kit and what the
standard that Microsoft is proposing is? Much as we might hate to mention
Microsoft (or the 3 letter company), when they decide to do something, they
will become a big player in the market (the old "300 pound gorilla" problem).
It would be nice to trump them by being compliant with their standard possibly
years before they are (<devilish grin>). Is this possible or are they gearing
their standard in such a way that the Amiga couldn't compete?

I don't recall what all the specifics were, but MS's idea of a multimedia
system is an i286 or better, VGA, CD-ROM, and DVI (I think they're supporting
this). And their attitude is still that the "m word" is something that will
be attainable in the future.

It's pretty funny, Microsoft is hoping for multimedia for the future when way
back in 1985 the introduction for the Amiga was a multimedia event.

I'm not trying to say that the Amiga was the first to be involved in
multimedia, but it was doing it before the buzz-word.
