[comp.sys.amiga] Chip, Timing, & Clock Problems

dholleb@cdp.UUCP (12/23/90)

I get no strange colors on bootups, and I have just replaced the both CIA
8520's after disconnecting the a-max/Mac floppy drive while under
amigados.(I forgot the power to it was still on, even though I wasn't
using a-max). I'm having problems with the clock, sometimes the date/time
is correct, and sometimes it reads nov 11, 1990 and other dates. On a
coldboot "setclock load" gives me <unset> <unset> <unset> <unset>.
Sometimes only three <unset>'s. Sometimes it types the date in the bootup
cli and sometimes not. Sometimes when I click the mouse on an icon
everything and the system freeezes. Occasionally on a crash I get a
green screen with horizontal bands flickering across. Sometimes I get
only a grey screen on boot, without any disk activity.
Amiga clocks and mac system clock in a-max emulation runs so fast that ONE
DAY GOES BY EVERY 62 SECONDS, BUT when I type setclock load the time is
correct!

Several repair shops here say they have no chip tester for 8520's or
custom chips and the way that they repair them is to try hit and miss by
replacing chips one at a time. I'm worried that something they can't
detect is wrong.
I have a GVP 68030/882/4megs/dual quantum 80AT's. They put my 8520's in
their stock 2000 to "test" them and they seem to be alright, but I 'm
still getting these strange, occaisional clock problems and mouse freezes.
I'm also worried after reading that some of the MAC viruses have damaged
chips and I had an unknown virus a few months ago. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks.
p.s. Also after a few minutes neither of my df0: or df1: will read a disk
( the led's don't come on and no clicking, etc.) None of the above
problems occurred before I unplugged the Mac drive with the power on,
except somtimes the mouse would freeze on double clicking.
