Howdy, I'm looking for a graphics tablet for my Amiga and was considering buying Dakota's Sketch Master. I was wondering whether there are tablets that will allow you to insert a ballpoint pen nib inside the stylus so that you can see what you draw on a sheet of paper that's sitting on the tablet as well as what's on the screen. Oh and of course it must be Amiga compatible... I seem to recal Tektronix had a tablet like that, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the Amiga. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. I've been using a Sperry/Kurta tablet for some time. Comes with two "cursors":
one is a mouse-like cursor with 3 buttons and X-Y crosshairs, and the other is
a pen-like cursor with a "dry" ball-point tip for which one CAN substitute a
Fisher Space Pen cartridge for drawing on a piece of paper placed on top of
the tablet.
For reference, the Sperry/Kurta tablet I'm using is their Model 4551 which
comes in either 8-1/2"x11" or 12"x12" tablet sizes. The interface is RS-232
and the tablet can be completely programmed and interrogated by the computer
in addition to having some 22 function selections along the top of the tablet
(outside the main digitizing area). Of the several "encoding" methods used by
the tablet, one is compatible with Summagraphics (at least it works fine with
GSS' GKS VDI graphics on my UNIX boxes in addition to working fine on the
Amiga). The tablet can also be easily programmed to report its coordinates in
terms of one's CRT screen resolution (i.e. 640x200, 640X400, 720x480 or
whatever) in addition to the "normal" 50, 100 or 200 ppi selectable resolution
of the tablet (which, by the way, "maps" nicely into the coordinate system of
Hewlett-Packard plotters).

They're located in the Toronto area. As it happens, I'm in the midst of updating the EASYL User's Guide (for the PC -- same tablet, different interface). The EASYL is popular among artists and animators. It is designed to hold both paper and cels (pegs provided), if desired, or you can just use the stylus on the pad itself. There are numerous adjustments for sensitivity, linearity, orientation, etc. Here's Anakin's address and number: Anakin Research Inc. 100 Westmore Drive Unit 11c Rexdale, Ontario M9V 5C3 (416) 744-4246 ) This tablet is also pressure-sensitive... Depending, of course, on the software on the other end :-) I know there's at least one such product for the PC. Phone Anakin for further info.
