[comp.sys.amiga] USR 14400/V42bis and Amiga

a72@mindlink.UUCP (Raman Anand) (12/26/90)

I've just upgraded to the new USRobotics 14400 V42bis HST modem. I'm having
problems downloading and uploading using V42bis (38400 baud)
compression. I have used most of the popular PD/Shareware Amiga
terminals and they all choke at bauds higher than 19.2k.
Much to my surprise, Zterm0.85 (under AMAXII) works flawlessly at
38400 baud acheiving over 1650cps (Zmodem).
I would like to know what (Real Amiga) terminals are people using
with their HST14400/V42bis (or Dual) modems.

Well, I've see what you mean. I use JRComm, but I found if I wanted more than
2 colors I had to keep the serial port locked at 19.2. The best program I know
of is AZComm, however make sure you have a version of serial.device that handles
CTS/RTS flow control correctly and make sure the modem is set for a locked
DTE rate with full hardware flow control. The init string for the modem should
look something like this: AT&B1&H1&I0&R2B1

There is a small program called AmiModem that will set up your HST modem like
this as well as setting some of the S-Registers for better dialing speed.

First. I don't see any reasons, why you should to use the 38400 bps
speed, because it is so few situations, where it is useful.

JR-Comm is truely lazy, and hard load to the Amiga. It have problems
with 38400.

Only terminal software that I have seen working 100% OK with 38400
is Azcomm V2.XX. There is support for 38400 bps. But this terminal
is only met for transfering files with ZMODEM. There ain't working
VT100 or ANSI-emulation. I use this, if I have to transfer files
higher speed that 19200 or I have to do something else during the
file transfering. It's a very 'light' SW.
