[comp.sys.amiga] Serial printer

hb136@leah.albany.edu (Herb Brown) (12/23/90)

We were given an HP LazerJet serial printer and would like to use
it (once in a while) from the bridgeboard side. The manual is clear
on using a parallel printer, but does not mention what to do in the
case of a serial printer. Can someone shed some light? Many thanks,

                                  Herb

Simply put, the bridgeboard can't access the serial interface
circuitry of the Amiga side. So you will have to purchase a
serial board to plug into one of the PC slots. Please notice
one limitation: DO NOT USE COM2! The I/O addresses and interrupts
for COM2 are used for the Bridgeboard/Amiga commucincation.
Those interface boards are VERY cheap today, btw.

     That's interesting - I got a 2 serial + 1 parallel port board
for my A2286 and successfully tested COM1:, COM2:, and LPT2: (I
use the Amiga's serial port for LPT1:). Maybe I'm just lucky.
