Anyone hear of a virus infecting a Kickstart disk? The behavior of my 1000 changed slightly; happened to occur just after I had a nasty crash, caused by some PD software. it was bad enough that the machine demanded my KS disk. And yes, I was dumb enough to do what it said. Now, the machine takes slightly longer to boot. The latest virus detectors (that I have) can't find anything on my boot disk, or in any of the files on it. I haven't seen any nasty messages or anything. I have a not-bootable HD system, and I boot with the same disks every time. So, my possibilities for what's happening are 1) there's something on the boot disk that I haven't found, 2) there's something on the KS disk, or 3) I'm starting to see things due to too much hacking.

Do you keep your Kickstart disk write-protected? If so, there is NO WAY that a virus can infect it; the disk drive itself has the final word on whether a disk can be written to. If the hole is open, NOTHING can make the drive write to the disk, even if it appears to be writing to it. I'd suspect some hacking...or use another copy of your Kickstart disk. --Rick Wrigley fhwri@conncoll.bitnet
