[comp.sys.amiga] amiga robotics help

  I am looking for a little help...

  I am working on a robotics project using an Amiga as the 'brains'.  Although
the project will probably use a simulator (as we are all CS majors) we 
would love to have the project based in the read world.  To do his we
are planning to use the parallel port as one end of a bus to the robot.
Most of the hardware is going to be easy but we need to know how the parallel
port sends/receives signals.  Is there a book out for this?  We want to
use the parallel.device as the project is going to have to run on at least
a 3000, 2000, 2000HD, and a 500 and we don't want hardware dependencies.

PLEASE... I have read all I can but there is little in the RKM's, Abacus',
etc's (that I can find) about how the parallel.device handles ACKs etc...
and I need to know how to handle the logic.

  Anything at all... mail if possible, but I'll be reading this group
until school starts (comp.sys.amiga {.tech, .hardware}).
