I have thought of a few things 2.0 could do with to make it easier for lamers to use. 1) The ability to create icons from workbench (give a file without an icon an icon) 2) This might be fixed in the latest version... but I changed the protection on a file in the shell so that a file wasn't deleteable, then when to workbench and couldn't delete it. So I called up the information on the file and clicked in the deleteable box to make it deleteable then clicked save. I still couldn't delete the file. So I tried info again and it still said it was not deleteable! I tried this again and it appears to be a bug. 3) The system should be changed so that the startup sequence does not stop if an assign fails or something, so the machine is not left in a useless state. Perhaps there should be a default startup so if someone stuffs up the startup they can recover easily. 4) It should be easier to add a multisync monitor to the system! I am a programmer and can not work it out without the manuals. I can easily get it to be added but you should just have to do something simple like double click on bindmonitor to save the monitor type. At the moment i run a script on startup to hack it to work... 5) Sound in preferences! I know I sound like a Mac user but it would be neat to be able to have samples for beeps. 6) Speech for system messages etc. It should be easier to get say to speak files too. The say program is one of the simple things which impress Mac people and people who know nothing about computers. Using the cli or copying to the speak handler is NOT user friendly!! 7) The screen flash is gross and should be changed! I think this has something to do with DisplayBeep()????? 8) It should be easier to stop the drives clicking!!! 9) Recoverable software alerts should be recoverable, or the message should be changed to "This might be recoverable!" 10) The system should detect the crashes where the mouse pointer freezes better These are not flames, just suggestions. What does everyone else think? Colin.
