[comp.sys.amiga] 2.0X for 256K ROM machines

nordmark@elixir.lne.kth.se (Gunnar Nordmark) (01/05/91)

Now when 2.0 is almost ready (:-) and are about to be ROMed I think
that this question might be relevant:
Will there be a stripped down (i.e. 256K) version of kickstart 2.0
that includes just the bare bones (like exec.library, dos.library and
the file system) and finds the rest of the resident libraries in ordinary
disk files?

Technically, it seems to me, this would be very easy to do.

Commodore was here in melb Aust quite a while back, showing of there
3000UX machines. With them was the HEAD of R&D from the US.
He said, back then, that 2.0x for 512k ROM machines will be
software based. ie zkick and a 2.02 image file.
This means you need an expanded amiga. This does ring true as
putting 2.0x into a 2000 with a 256K rom slot does sound like it
would be hard to do and expansive.
2.0x was reported to be a free upgrade to people who bough there
amiga after a certain date. The easyest way to do this is
for dealers to give out copies (like may be happening now from what
some Articals topic seem to point out).
My brother being a developer in Aust (one of a many who DOES get
responces from commodore here) has had 2.02 for quite a while.
I have been running it on my 2000 3meg(1meg Agy) 100meg HD(GVP)
for quite a while. I still use 1.3 mainly as its more reliable
with older programs. ie Dpaint
